Delegation

Background

Delegation is a two-way process. People both give and receive delegation. There is a problem in that standards of delegation are not always high, leading to confusion, wasted effort and inefficiency. Those who delegate are not always clear about what is required or its priority. Those who receive are unaware of their responsibility to seek clarity. However delegation can be done effectively, to the mutual benefit of all.

Objectives

  • To establish a framework for the effective practice of delegation.
  • To consider delegation in its wider context.

Method

Participants consider delegation in the framework of their work, using case studies and undertaking assessment exercises. They relate delegation to time management.
