Working with Difficult People

Background

Whatever the rhetoric of management theory, the fact is that difficult people can make working life seem impossible. It sometimes appears that nothing can be done. In fact, there are available well tested techniques which, although they do not guarantee success, show the right way to go about improving the situation.

Objectives

  • To consider the ways in which people can be difficult
  • To review the range of techniques which are available to improve the situation

Method

Usually syndicate discussion considering examples (on a non-attributable basis!); or by case study followed by practice of the different techniques. Where appropriate, there will be a review of the organisational background.
