Introduction to Management

Background

When people first go into management, they are often surprised to find how much time it takes; those who have previously been judged on their personal performance do not at first see management as "proper work". What helps them come to terms with and grow to love management, is an understanding of the process and an appreciation that their experience is not unique.

Objectives

  • To show how the manager's role is different from that of the "doer".
  • To explain the roles and responsibilities of the manager.
  • To pin-point management problem areas.

Method

Participants take part in syndicate and plenary sessions, management games, self-assessment activities and role playing, all designed to relate their personal experience to their new management roles.
