Meetings/chairing

Background

Well-run meetings save time and help make the organisation effective. Good meetings are well chaired, there is high participation before the meeting, including in agenda creation, and during the meeting; and participants are aware of the level at which the meeting can contribute to and manage decision-making. Outside facilitators can contribute to meeting effectiveness by;

  • Taking the chair when an independent facilitator can help participants focus on the matters in hand;
  • Providing training on meeting effectiveness for chair and participants;
  • Helping committees or boards establish protocols as to how they can work effectively together;
  • Helping meetings decide the levels at which discussion and decision can take place within the meeting and what needs to be done outside;
  • Help meetings set up an agenda format.

Method

There is an initial meeting with the client to discuss objectives followed by discussion of proposed agenda for the coaching/training sessions. Facilitator runs the sessions and is available for follow up and review.
