Psychometrics

Background

Psychological tests are widely used in UK industry and organisational life for a range of purposes: promotion and selection; team building and management development; and personal and career counselling. Testing gives an accurate picture of mental ability and aptitudes, personality and psychological preferences, and thinking style - particularly when used as a core element of a comprehensive assessment.

Objectives

  • To enable companies to make better informed management appointments by providing in-depth assessment and a full report on individual candidates.
  • To bring individual managers to a deeper understanding of themselves, their strengths, their self-presentation, and their self-development goals.
  • To support team-working through enhanced understanding of the unique abilities, thinking styles and psychological preferences of each team member.
  • To test mental ability and aptitudes for graduate recruitment.

Method

A typical programme consists of

  • Up to six-hour assessments for individuals including a battery of objective tests, personal discussions with the psychologist, and a presentation on a relevant business topic.
  • Personal feedback sessions enable individuals to make sense of the assessment results, identify personal goals and plan their self-development.
  • Team assessments typically last from 1 to 3 hours, with feedback and discussions in follow-up half-day team-building sessions.
  • Group testing and feedback sessions for graduate candidates.
